My history with Pigeons
I have been around pigeons since the age of 10, My first pair of pigeons were fantails.
I named on of them Pidge after the pigeon in the old Disney Movie the pigeon that worked
a miracle.
My first pair of Homers came when I was probably 13 or 14 years old,
I worked all summer for my uncle, he never paid me until the last day of summer
him and I took a drive over to one of his friends house, he said he had to borrow some thing.
Well his friend just happened to Vic Pennington who was one of the best pigeon flyers at the the time in Wichita Ks,
I got to pick out 2 pair of homers, boy was I floating on cloud nine.
I have keep pigeons off and on ever since that day.
I started racing when I joined the Wichita Homing Pigeon Club in 1986
I struggled for a long time with completing with some of the top flyers in the country,
Bill Bonwell, Dennis Wells, Larry Payne, just ot name a few.
It all changed when a friend of mine Mike Hopper went to see Rick Mardis and purchased a kit of 20 CBS Grizzles, Mike breed a bunch of birds the next year, he gave me 10 yb's to fly and they were instant winners That year I had top point bird and several top 10 positions.
The Next year year Larry Payne decided to leave the sport and gifted Mike and I his loft of birds.
We breed yb's from those and sent one to the 2005 Cincinnati Classic money race,
our bird won first ooa, first overall bird to claim the top prize.
I have not flown competitive since then, I sold out and pursued other interests,
but the pigeon blood was in my blood, so in 2007 I went to Oak Haven Farms and purchased
a couple pair of breeders, my intention was to fly ooa races(but never did)
I breed several birds from those breeders then sold them
So here I am living in Sedan Ks with no clubs close to fly with.
But I still Have birds.
